I need someone to explain

Hey so, like

For starters, I'm a dumbass so I'm sorry if this sounds dumb as shit

I'm wondering how the music copyright works on here?

Like, am I able to post a video with a copyrighted song with credit or will it get taken down no matter what? I wanna make simple animations to some songs I'm listening to but like, I wanna be able to post them y'know?

again sorry if I sound dumb I just don't wanna get in shit or lose my account because I made a silly video and didn't know the music wasn't allowed due to copyright or whatever.

Thank you :'D

There cannot be any copyright music period, unless there's some sort of written consent from the label or artist that you have exclusive permission & rights to use it, which usually doesn't (if ever) happen. Newgrounds can't host it obviously for financial and legal reasons :)

Hope this helps!

Have any recommendations if I do make an animation with copyrighted music? Would it be better to make an alt with a cover or something like that?

A cover would be perfectly fine! Just don't sample any actual audio from the copywritten song you're using and you'll have no issues :)

Perfect! Thank you so much!

I’m also wondering, is there a way to figure out if something is copyrighted? I know that sounds dumb but I legit don’t know how to figure that out.

If it's a song from a popular artist, you can usually go to a site like YouTube and check the description for a copyright symbol or any sort of "All rights reserved" statement. If it's anything recorded and published by a label or entertainment group, it's pretty much guaranteed to always be copywritten :)

Perfect! Thank you so much!!!

As Osaka's already pointed out, any copyrighted audio will get taken down, no ifs or buts.

On a related note, there's plenty of copyright-free/Creative Commons music in the Audio Portal (https://www.newgrounds.com/audio), and several resources for royalty-free music on the wiki (https://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/creator-resources/music-and-audio-resources/royalty-free-music). If you're looking for music, I'd recommend checking both of those out.
